Independence Day

Today became a day off from letter-writing. The perfect sunny weather brought me to the City of Piedmont, and I watched their 4th of July Parade. Numerous people sat by the sidewalk, garbed in Red, White, and Blue clothing and accessories. What a fun sight! Some folks walked around holding their dog’s leash. My puppy enjoyed all the smells and sights. The parade started, and different local groups showed up with banners and uniforms. Classic vintage cars slowly drove by, used by the parade organizers. My phone camera witnessed my never-ending photography of vintage cars. They will be shared with my pen pals through my photo newsletters.

I attend different kinds of events to have content in my letters. It’s a question I often ask myself. “What should I write about?” Even on a blog like this, topics don’t come easy. Of course, events aren’t the only way to get content. The more pressing issue for me is where the limitation line starts. Writing letters is not supposed to be a diary. Although, for some letter-writers who earned their badge of best friendship, there is no limitation. There are topics that I can’t easily discuss with someone 16,000 miles away. Your mileage may vary.

So, I often write about events. They’re mostly public. They’re fun. I like to write about positive things, even though we can’t necessarily avoid negative experiences. It’s part of life. However, today was all about fun, socializing, friendship, and family. It’s a nice break from letter-writing. I get to write all about it after.
